Alaska by Rail

One of the best ways to see the sights of Alaska is through a railroad tour! The Alaska Railroad is a railway that runs between Anchorage and Whittier and also from Anchorage to Fairbanks. On the southern Whittier route, the train also stops at Seward and on the northern route, it stops at Denali and Talkeetna. These tracks cover some of the most beautiful Alaskan countryside and the Alaska Railroad operates several scenic tours for tourists.

Taking an Alaska Railroad tour is one of the best ways to view some of the more remote locations in Alaska's vast countryside. You will not have to worry about where you will stay each night, because the tours include your hotel accommodations at luxury hotels. You will stop periodically along the route to get out and enjoy some of the scenery, as well as mingle with native Alaskans. When you park yourself in the observation car, you will be gazing on some of the most beautiful views in the northern hemisphere.

One of the most popular Alaskan train tours is offered by the Alaska Railroad and is called Alaska by Rail. This tour is designed for the railway enthusiast and takes riders through some of the local culture. You will explore the Kenai Fjords National Park, as well as the shoreline of Kenai. The train will take you into some of the interior areas of the state and you will revel in the wildlife of Denali National Park. One of the stops even allows travelers to ride a sternwheeler down the Fairbanks River! This is a nine-day tour, with eight nights in luxury hotels. It begins and ends in Anchorage.

For those interested in a natural experience, the Visit Denali Tour offered by the Alaska Railroad takes guests on a three-day trip through the massive national park. This is a great way to experience the mountains that Alaska is so famous for. Do not be surprised if you see a herd of caribou on this trip!

For the ultimate rail experience in Alaska, consider the Alaskan Odyssey trip. This is an eleven-day tour of the entire state, starting at the Pacific and ending at the Arctic. It takes visitors to all of the most famous Alaskan destinations and includes transportation by train, plain and bus. You will experience the midnight sun over the Arctic Ocean, the thrill of the Arctic National Park and the opportunity to see some of Alaska's wildlife in Denali National Park. This tour also takes you through the vast tundra, an experience you are sure to never forget.

The White Pass and Yukon Railroad offers tourist trips through the Alaska into the Yukon of Canada. This railway is historic, as it was built around the turn of the century during the height of the Klondike Gold Rush. This trip takes you on cars that are recreations of the original cars through train stations that are also reminiscent of a time gone by. Like the other railway, you will enjoy the most stunning views on this trip and the cars have large windows for you to use to view the passing scenery. Each car is also equipped with outside viewing platforms that you can use to get a taste of fresh air.

Saigon Strolling Tours in Vietnam

Really not the best city for walking it is better for strolling so you can save your strength for when you have to cross a major street where the lights don’t say “Walk” they say instead “Run For Your Life”! but if you plan your trip right you can minimize the street crossings especially in the downtown center as there is a ton of stuff to look at and to poke around inside which is a good thing as it gets really hot here in the noon day sun.

The Ben Than market is just such a place where you take your life into your hands getting to it, if you are on the wrong side of the street as there is a tremendous circle that is buzzing with traffic, this should not be attempted by the meek. Inside you will find the usual tourist trap junk but there are also some very interesting things to find if you poke around a bit like the glass sellers stall. I was stuck here for 5 minutes which with my MTV attention span is a lifetime. Fascinating glass dolls with such detail all glistening and sparkling under the bright lights. The Vietnamese like the Chinese like to eat some very interesting stuff, I like trying to guess what it was when it was still animated.

The Carevelle and Rex hotels both of these hotels go back to the French colonial time and like the Raffles hotels you can feel the history seeping out of the walls, a good choice for a drink is the rooftop Saigon bar of the Carevelle.

Between the Carevelle and the Rex is a small park inside you will find a statue for Ho Chi Minh. Also all around this area in just about any direction you go you are going to run into a landmark like the reunification museum the Post office the old city hall and the historical museum which covers all of Vietnam's history which is quite a lot they been around for a long time.

You should also stroll over to Bu Vien street which is where the backpackers hang out it is a bit of a walk from the downtown core but the street scene here is very interesting with the 10 ft wide buildings very interesting to view during the day take a walk through one of the blocks and like cruising around the hutongs areas of Beijing you are going to see real Saigon at its best I highly recommend the street side cafĂ© just remember don’t drink it after 10 am or you will be up all night!

Adventure Travel in Peru - Welcome to the Big City, Country Boy

When I first came to Peru, I lived in Arequipa for over four months while I was studying Spanish. Even though I grew up on a farm in Minnesota, I had lived in Tokyo and Los Angeles for about 20 years so was used to life in the big city. However after living here in Cotahuasi for over a year and a half, I have become a country boy again. When I go to Arequipa, I usually try to make it as brief as possible. Planning to make a short trip there, I left Cotahuasi at 7:00 on a Wednesday morning. I decided to check out the approach to Coropuna on the way, as I was driving right by there. We would be climbing it in a few weeks and I wanted to get a little more hands on information, especially as it had fresh snow since the last time I was near there. I was a little nervous about the climb as well because Coropuna is 21,079 feet high.

I looked around and found a different road and was able to drive closer to the base of the mountain than last time, finally stopping when boulders blocked the road at an elevation of about 16,000 feet. I then hiked up almost 3,000 feet, on what looked like the best approach route, to about 18,800 feet. This was only about 2,300 feet below the summit, so I was very pleased with that. It took me three hours and 35 minutes to get up there and two hours and 15 minutes to get back to the car. Of course where I turned around is where it really gets steep and I was already starting to really feel the effects of the altitude. I was still below the snow line as well, so that will slow things down considerably when we reach that point. Anyway, it got me thinking that it might even be possible to do as a day hike! Will have to see how it goes this time as a two day hike, and then decide if it is possible to do as a day hike or not.

I arrived in Arequipa that evening about 10:00 and was at Marcio's, where I stay, and in bed before 11:00, hoping to get a good night's sleep. Of course the dogs in the neighborhood had other ideas (they bark all night long), I always forget how much noisier it is in Arequipa than in Cotahuasi. And then the combis and taxis start very early in the morning, honking and hollering for passengers, and the room I sleep in is right on the street and is definitely not sound proof!

In the morning I went to the main post office to pick up a package that was being held at customs. After about an hour of waiting, filling out and signing forms, I finally got my package, surprisingly without having to pay anything. Why they couldn't have just sent it on to Cotahuasi, I don't know.

After that I started on my shopping, buying things that I can't get in Cotahuasi or that are more expensive there. I talked with a shopkeeper friend in the central market and she warned me that there were more pickpockets and thieves than ever and to be extra careful. I have learned to take warnings like that seriously. Unfortunately I was out of money so had to go to the bank before I could finish shopping. I got my money in dollars from the ATM machine and then went to the moneychangers to exchange it for soles. When I got my soles, I put most of them into a money belt that I wear around my waist, tucked into my pants. Of course I was trying not to be too obvious about this, not wanting people to see where I was putting the money. I carefully zipped up the pouch and then started back to the shopping area, crossing the street right in front of the moneychanger's office.

As I got to the other side, I noticed a couple of men running into the street and picking up money, I soon realized that it was mine! Here I was, trying to get the money back from them, trying to pick up some that is still in the street, and then realizing that more money was falling on the street as I moved around! I was totally bewildered, as I knew I had zipped up the pouch and was sure it hadn't developed a hole in it since I last used it. I went back into the moneychangers to get off the busy street and checked the pouch; there was no money in it and no hole. I finally realized that in my trying to put the money in there discreetly, I must not have put it into the pouch but in between the pouch and my pants!

Sure enough there was still more money falling down my pants legs so here I was trying to get that out and make sure I got it all, while standing in a corner of the open office! I'm sure I must have made quite a sight, the man behind the counter kept looking at me strangely. Finally sure that I had it all secure; I left the office. Then I realized that it was possible that a "ladron" (thief, pickpocket) might have seen me and was just waiting for me to come out. I went away from the shopping area, looking over my shoulder often and quickly ducked into an open courtyard of a museum and office complex to gather my wits and count the money. I was about 130 soles short (about $40) but was thankful I hadn't lost more.

I felt that it wasn't a good idea to head back to the shopping area on foot, so decided to go get my car and do my shopping with that, especially as I had to get some heavy things like sugar, powered milk, popcorn, a large case of cereal, as well as a large pack of toilet paper. I parked on the street in a busy wholesale shopping area and first went into a shop to get a dozen packages of my favorite cookies, kind of like a vanilla Oreo with strawberry filling. I had to wait a few minutes while she found 12 packs with all strawberry and just as she put them on the counter, a woman on the street hollered something about my car. I was afraid there was a policewoman coming to give me a ticket so ran out of the store to see my car hooked up to a tow truck and they were just starting to drive off with it! I ran to the truck and pleaded with the policeman to not tow it away but to no avail. He said I would have to go to the "deposito" to get it. Of course I had no idea where or what the deposito was so he said I could ride with them in the truck.

To shorten a long story, 142.50 soles and about an hour later I got my car out of the impound yard, after having to take the filled out forms around the corner to have copies made for them. Almost all government offices here require photocopies of all paper work but they don't have copy machines so you have to go to a store and have copies made. Fortunately, there are copy machines everywhere, in all kinds of stores, so it is not too difficult to find one. I had remembered to take a copy of my passport to the customs office at the post office in the morning and sure enough they wanted that as well.

Later in the afternoon I met my friend Morayma and she went with me to go back and get my cookies that I had left on the counter when my car was towed, as well as do the rest of my shopping. Then I met another friend Maribel in the Square and told her what had happened so she invited me out for roast chicken dinner. It was an expensive day but I learned a couple more lessons about life in the big city, as well as had an enjoyable time with two good friends. Hopefully tomorrow will be uneventful as I finish my shopping and then head back to Cotahuasi.

You Cannot Miss a Tour of the Rome City Fountains

The Rome City fountains have been around for quite some time. Even in ancient times, the Romans were adept at using and channeling water to suit their needs. According to all accounts, Rome has more fountains than any other city in the world, and the art on these fountains alone is priceless.

However, many of the fountains can be traced back to ancient Popes. In order to understand more about the fountains of Rome, one should definitely go on one of the many Rome City tours that offer a glimpse at these marble marvels.

Of all the Rome City fountains, the Trevi Fountain is by far the most famous. With its impressive statue of Triton in all of his glory, one would be shocked to learn that a Pope actually commissioned this great piece of art. Clement XII wanted to rebuild the area in which the fountain is now in, and the fountain alone took over thirty years to finish. It is a breathtaking site that still holds visitors in awe of the fusion of marble and art.

Other great fountains in Rome include the Spanish steps and its unique boat fountain, the Four Rivers Fountain and Piazza Navona. All of these wonderful works of art can be attributed to the papacy and the Vatican City in some form or fashion. However, the Pope of today just enjoys the sound of the rushing waters from the ancient fountains, along with all of the millions who are attracted by them each day.

A Rome City tour can offer a person a chance to take hold of the past with one of the many of the Rome City fountains. Today, these marvels are seen as amazing works of art.

However, at one time, they could have been a source of water for bathing or a way to start the rebuilding of one of the most famous empires of the world. No matter who was behind these great works of art, they have proven to be everlasting in their combination of ancient marble art and waters that have flowed since the height of the Roman Empire.

Italy Bike Tour Makes the Perfect Vacation

Where To Spend Your Holiday Vacation

Planning a vacation can be a lot of fun but can also be stressful. With so many things to remember and plan, your destination should be your easiest thing to plan. However, many people can't decide where they want to spend their holiday vacation. After reading advertisements and brochures as well as word of mouth, more people are choosing Italy as their vacation location. If it's affordable for you and your family, book your vacation and start planning what you'll wear and where you'll go. The fun is just beginning.

What you want to do or see in Italy will determine where you want to go in Italy. If you're just looking for a relaxing vacation to kick back and soak up some sun for a few days, Sicily is the perfect choice. Located at the southern tip of Italy, Sicily is known for some of the most beautiful seascapes. You can get to Sicily by land, air or water. Sicily has two airports, Catania and Palermo, both of which cater to international and domestic flights. Traveling by airplane is the most stress-free way to get around. Traveling by water or land may involve transferring from one craft to another, which will take longer and be more stressful.

Sicily can be very relaxing and fun. Sightseeing is a pastime for many tourists. Another fun activity is an Italy bike tour. These are available in many cities in Italy. They offer individual bike tours, group bike tours and customized bike tours.

When you're staying in Sicily, you'll be on a beautiful island that separate from Calabria, which is on the mainland so you won't have to deal with the busy world. If you have a hard time dealing with extreme heat, it would be best if you went there in the spring or fall. During this season, you'll be able to enjoy the city to the fullest.

Tuscany

Tuscany is the perfect place to spend your holiday vacation if you don't want to spend your vacation right by the ocean. Tuscany is located in central Italy and is known for its gorgeous landscapes. Relaxing Travel Opportunities

Each man and woman has their own idea of what makes up a great getaway. We all enjoy different things. Some of us enjoy a nice relaxing vacation with no worries in a nice locale. Others like a bit of adventure and excitement as part of their trip. Either way, you are lucky in that there are tours and vacations catered to these demands and either in between.

If you really want a relaxed vacation, then there are plenty of options in Europe. Italy offers a lot of these opportunities. I'm sure you all have a basic image of Italy. It's a little romantic country with beauty scenery and a small town and traditional feel. If you really want to just have a relaxing vacation, then you can check into a number of resorts in Italy. Then just enjoy the fine dinning and the beautiful atmosphere. If you really want to have the whole Italian experience, you can always look into taking Italy tours. These tours groups can cover individual cities or the entire country if you wish. Either way, you'll be with a group of friend exploring a new landscape in a relaxed and comfortable setting.

If you wish to have a bit more global of a trip, then you can always consider a European river cruise. These are exactly what they sound like. You get on a nice boat and take a cruise on the rivers that criss cross Europe. The good news is that Europe is covered and connected by waterways. You can explore just about any part of the country through a good river cruise. The style of each might vary a bit. Some are more luxury while others offer a cheaper budget version. The point is that either option will let you peacefully float past the heartland of Europe while enjoying a relaxing cruise experience.

Relaxing isn't perfect for everyone though. If you want something a bit more extreme you can always consider an Egypt vacation. I say extreme, but the only really extreme aspect is the warmer climate. Everything else can be taken in a peaceful manner via tour groups and nice hotels, but Egypt mainly offers a sense of adventure. You can take the opportunity to see vast architecture from thousands of years ago. You can actually say that you saw the pyramids and walked next to the Sphinx. This is just a life experience that one shouldn't pass up.

These are just a few options representing the gambit of vacations. If any of them sounded interesting to you, then just stop and consider it for your next getaway.

Fear of Travel an Experience More Common Than You Think

Anyone who has ever experience a fear of flying may be surprised to learn that in some cases it is secondary to an actual fear of travel! The latter is not a term that is commonly found in the textbooks speaking of phobias and disorders, and generally you may find components relating to the fear of travel in such tomes - namely Agoraphobia, Claustrophobia, Xenophobia, Aviophobia, and a host of other fears and anxiety producing disorder - but an honest to goodness definition cannot be found.

Experiencing the fear of travel is normal and if in your heart of hearts you have had to grapple with it, do not believe for a moment that you are alone! Instead, revel in the fact that there are others like you who - almost immediately upon planning or announcing a much anticipated trip to an exotic locale or even one closer to home - suffer from troublesome self-doubts. Second guessing why they chose the one destination over another, leaving their home state rather than traveling stateside, worrying about the food that might aggravate gastrointestinal health issues currently being experienced, and finally in light of an impending airline flight experience the gambit of anxiety, panic and fear is not alien to such reluctant travelers with a fear of travel.

As a matter of fact, you will find that the fear of travel will make the anticipation of the trip less like a savoring of the times spent in an exotic locale and more like an emotional roller coaster that makes awaiting your child's birth or impending nuptials seem like child's play! A fear of travel, a fear of change, a fear of the unknown and of course a fear of getting there via air transportation all factor into the bigger condition known as a fear of flying, although the very fact that the latter is so multi-faceted makes the treatment with "one size fits all treatments" such a nonsensical and patently frustration approach for many a traveler.

Experiencing the fear of travel is a debilitating state of mind which spills over into other phobias, although in and of itself it is not recognized as such. Fortunately, the sufferer will take heart when learning that in many cases this fear will diminish when the actual date of departure arrives and the excitement of the trip itself takes over the mind's focusing ability. Thus the person worried and sleepless for days at a time will suddenly experience euphoria and all anxiety will appear to have been shed. For this traveler, the fear of travel only affected the time leading up to the event and then dissipated, while for the white knuckled airline traveler it will carry over into the fear of flying disorder. The latter, of course, may be dealt with adequately and decisively with the help of an outstanding program that will attack the problem at the root - the subconscious.

Thus, do not despair when you find yourself in the throws of anxiety or panic but remember that others are suffering through the same problem and in the same way also were able to end their anxiety and even panic with a few simple choice treatments such as Hypnotherapy, NLP, and other traditional forms of Therapy.

Travel Adventure in Peru - Ten Gallons of Diesel Fuel Please

When I go to Oyolo, I always take some extra gasoline with me in a gas can. It is only 120 miles roundtrip but there are NO gas stations between Cotahuasi and Oyolo, and also none in Oyolo. If for any reason I need to do any extra driving (like when I had to go looking for the team from Florida last time) I want to have enough extra gas to get home. Unfortunately I didn't think of suggesting this to the team that came this time.

They had filled up at Marcabamba, the last available fuel before Oyolo (they were coming from Pausa) and then did some extra driving to visit another village before I met them. I had driven my car to Oyolo, left it there and then hiked about 3 hours to meet the team to guide them across the high plains. After they picked me up and we were heading up the switchbacks to the high plains, I realized that they didn't have enough fuel to get to Oyolo and back. I had extra gasoline for my car, but their pickup was a diesel so that was no help. We took a quick vote and decided to keep going and try to have someone deliver fuel to us in Oyolo, as it would have put us way behind schedule to go back and get some.

Then I got us lost as the road looked very different going to Oyolo than it did when I came from there the last time. That was a good reminder to me to turn around and look behind me as well, when I am trying to learn a new route. Our unplanned side trip of course used up more of our scarce fuel, but fortunately we still had enough to get to Oyolo. I figured we could call Cotahuasi and see if a supply truck was coming and have them bring some or order some from Marcabamba and have it delivered by a pack animal. When we got to Oyolo, I talked to Mariluz, who is a sister of Theresa and Isabel. Theresa has a restaurant where we often eat and Isabel is a teacher, who has invited us to talk to her students in the school. Mariluz often takes burros back and forth on the foot trail, from Oyolo to the end of the road at CCahuanamarca.

She brings supplies for Theresa's restaurant and for Isabel, who also has a small store. She said she could radio to Marcabamba and have the fuel sent by truck or combi (minivan bus) to CCahuanamarca and she would pick it up there and bring it back by burro. They have some kind of an arrangement where they can transfer money by radio, like we would make a wire transfer. We paid her for the fuel and transportation to CCahuanamarca and we were supposed to have 10 gallons of diesel by Thursday morning, when the team planned on leaving Oyolo. Wednesday afternoon, I saw her leaving with a burro and two 5-gallon cans but about an hour later she came back without the burro! She explained that she had sent someone else and that he would pick up the fuel when it was delivered in the late afternoon and leave early Thursday morning to bring it to Oyolo. However when I checked Thursday morning, we found out that the combi was too full so they didn't have room to bring the fuel, so he left the burro there and returned alone.

Mariluz said the fuel should arrive there in the afternoon and then someone would bring it to Oyolo by 8:00 pm. When we went to bed at about 10:00, there was still no fuel. In the meantime a truck had come from Cotahuasi with supplies and he agreed to sell us 10 gallons of his fuel, if ours didn't arrive in the morning. The team had a one-day "cushion" in their schedule but had to leave on Friday to get back to Lima in time to catch their return flight to the U.S. That night when I went to bed, I prayed again (as we had been doing all day) that the fuel would be there in the morning. A few minutes later, at 11:30, I heard some pack animals passing through the plaza in front of our hostel.

They had made the whole trip in the dark on a narrow mountain trail. I threw my clothes on and went to check, there were no fuel cans on their animals. I decided to ask if they knew anything about our fuel and they said someone was delivering it to Mariluz! I went back to the hostel and went to sleep, thanking God for answering our prayers. In the morning, Mariluz brought the fuel and with the help of a 2-liter soda bottle made into a funnel, the truck was fueled and ready to go. We drove together up to the high plain, I showed them where their road to Pausa was and I went the other direction to Cotahuasi. Another successful travel adventure in Peru.

Planning a Vacation? Consider a Tour!

Are you planning a vacation and trying to decide between an organized tour and being on your own? That can be a tough decision but there are many great reasons to consider a tour!

Most of us plan vacations, at least in part, to relax and unwind from our hectic careers. Organized tours are the perfect way to guarantee that you spend your vacation time stress-free! To begin with, all the plans are made for you. You don't have to decide how far to drive each day or what stops to make. You don't have to decide which hotel would be best or which restaurant will have good food!

On a typical organized tour, a representative of the company will meet you at a central location. For many people this meeting will take place at an airport. Once you collect your bags from the airport baggage carousel, you will not have to lift them again for the duration of your vacation. You and your bags will be transported to a meeting place, generally a hotel, where you will be introduced to your tour guide and your fellow travelers.

You will most likely travel from location to location on board a luxury bus. The seats will be plush, the bathroom will be small but clean, and the seats will be rotated. Both your guide and driver will be incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and friendly! Daily events begin on time and schedules are adhered to. You will be informed when your bags will be picked up and when to arrive at the bus.

Daily activities are planned well in advance, guaranteeing that you will not spend your time waiting in lines. Meals will be delicious, food will be plentiful, and alcohol will be available. Your admittance to various sites will be included in the price of the tour and you will not be "nickel and dimed" as you would be when traveling on your own. One of the most wonderful things about a tour is the knowledge that your guide will provide about the local culture. You will walk away feeling as though you really experienced your location. Don't worry that all your time will be scheduled as there are always afternoons available for you to make your own choices.

One highlight of your tour will be your fellow travelers. At the beginning, most people are somewhat shy, but by the third day you will feel like old friends. Make a point to spend quality time talking to everyone. Sit with different people at meals. You will meet many wonderful, fun people, and you will find that you have much in common. Couples, families, and even people traveling alone will be comfortable in this setting. These people will make your tour memorable and you will miss them when it is time to say goodbye.

Consider these things when planning your next vacation and give serious thought to a tour. You won't be sorry and your first one won't be your last!

Business Class Travel Vs First Class Travel

Every day, hundreds of thousands of people board airplanes. In addition, everyday, thousands of these people report displeasure with their flights. There are always a number of concerns. The couple in front of you was gabbing loudly, the man beside you was snoring, the baby behind you cried half of the way over the Atlantic. No matter what the reasons, there are a variety characteristics of flying that make it unpleasant to people. It is no wonder, then, that a variety of people choose to fly either in business class or first class cabins. However, many people often wonder what the differences are between these cabins and which one they should fly.

Price

One thing is for sure; both classes of travel often cost a lot more than coach class. However, there are also price differences between the first and business class tickets. Domestically speaking, first class is usually cheaper and offers a bit less in amenity. Internationally, however, first class is the most expensive and extravagant way to fly. If you are concerned about price, but still wish to fly in a nicer cabin than coach, consider flying first class domestically and business internationally.

Space

One thing that both cabins offer is superior space. However, there is a difference between the space offerings of business and first class. When flying business class, especially domestically, you will find the most space and comfort as oppose to first class which will still be larger than coach but not as large as business. This is not the same for international flights, however, where first class cabins are very large and luxurious. If space is extremely important to you, you may want to consider flying first class internationally and business domestically so that you have the most space.

Service

One thing is for sure when you are dealing with business and first class: the service will be far superior to coach. However, unlike many of the other categories where business trumps first class domestically, you will probably not find much of a difference in service between business and first class. Internationally you will probably find the same thing: the service in both business class and first class will be excellent, but will not vary much.

If you are considering flying soon, you should consider flying first class or business. Domestically speaking, business tends to be more expensive and offer more space, however the service in the two cabins is quite similar. Internationally, the story is different however, where business is typically inferior to first class in terms of space and price. Of course many domestic flights do not offer a choice between first class and business class. Except for on the biggest airplanes, there is usually only a choice between coach and first class, and coach and business. Either way, you know that if you select business or first class, you will be making a choice that will probably give you a more enjoyable experience.

Horseback and Shark Tour Activities in Hawaii

I had the fortunate opportunity to be in Hawaii in the summer of 2007 when the weather was absolutely beautiful for 3 straight months while we took a horseback tour, jumped in a shark cage and learned how to surf. It was my boyfriend and my sister and her boyfriend that found ourselves on the beautiful island of Oahu for one week before we left for the Big Island of Hawaii.

So you are probably thinking what young folks like us might end up doing on our Hawaiian vacation right? Well, let me tell you that we did not have one restful moment at all. We did a lot of our activities on the north shore where every outdoor activity imaginable can be found.

Our first activity was the shark tour where the boat took us 5 miles out to sea and dropped a cage in the water for us to enter like sitting ducks while 10 foot sharks came looking for a meal. My suggestion would be to go on an empty stomach because the ride out is pretty rough.

Now among all of the exciting Hawaii activities the ocean seems to be the sure bets but one of my more memorable activities was the Horseback riding tour that we took in the mountains along the North Shore with Happy Trails Hawaii. This Horse ride tour got my approval once we came up and around a little valley to be exposed to the beautiful and serene sight of Hawaii's North Shore coast. It was a sight to die for and me and my horse named "Oahu" savored the moment.

Among the many things to do while on your Hawaii vacation I would recommend the horseback tour on the North Shore and just about any activity in the ocean, hey you are in paradies so why not take advantage of Hawaii Activities!

Barefoot Hawaii Discount Bike Tours

Maui got a surge in popularity about 15 years ago, when companies started offering bike tours down Mount Haleakala. Tom's Barefoot Tours was first on the scene. Initially called Cruiser Bob's , the company staged the first downhill bike tours in the 1980's and introduced tourists to the beauty of inland Maui. Dozens of companies soon followed suit, and biking is now one of the top Maui activities for both tourists and locals.

The company offers two kinds of bike rides: a guided tour and an unguided or freestyle tour. The guided tour is offered to beginners and first-timers, and involves a dedicated tour guide who stays with the group for most of the tour. These tours are usually short, starting in midmorning and ending at noon at the Paia area or one of the nearby attractions.

The Sunrise Bike Tour is more popular among cycling enthusiasts. These tours start at around 3am with a hotel pickup, which takes you to the summit of Mount Haleakala. You'll make it just in time to catch the sunrise at the Haleakala Crater-a height of over 10,000 feet above sea level-before taking off for the downhill ride.

The descent down the volcano starts at the Haleakala National Park at around 6,500 feet. A chase van travels nearby with cameras, warm clothing, and emergency accessories, and several stops are provided for rests and picture taking. The tour ends at noon with a sit-down lunch before the guests are dropped off at their respective hotels.

The Island of Maui has some of the most scenic bike tours on Hawaii because most of the tours bike start from Mt. Haleakala from where you can see the entire coastline of West Maui.

Things to Consider While Planning Your Safari Tour of South Africa

You have always loved the idea of visiting a faraway place and seeing exotic sights. You also have an interest in photography, so you think that your next vacation should be a South African safari tour. However, there are several things that you will need to plan first before you embark on your South African safari tour.

About South African Safari Tours

The first thing that you should consider is what South African safari tour you should go on. There are a variety of South African safari tours you can choose from. However, the two things that you need to consider the most are the price, and safety.

When it comes to the price, you will notice that the prices of South African safari tours tend to vary widely. This is because some are run by locals, while others are run by companies. Do not choose a tour simply because you think that the cheaper price is more reasonable. Sometimes the better tour is indeed more expensive.

Instead, do some research on the tour that you are thinking of taking. If it is reputable, a travel agency or an internet travel site should easily recognize it. Be sure that you gather reviews of the tour as well, so that you have a better idea of how reliable it is.

When it comes to safety, that is the most important thing to consider. Be sure that the tour you choose is led by a certified guide. Also, be sure that the tour is one that does not take you into areas that could be dangerous. There is an element of risk to any South African safari tour, but you should be sure that everyone is well-insured.

Another thing that you should consider is your own health, For example, if you have arthritis or a heart problem check with your doctor before you go on your tour. Also, there are some diseases that can be gotten, such as malaria. This is especially true since you will be out in the wild. Thus, be sure that you get the appropriate inoculations.

The next thing that you will need to consider is your camera equipment. Since you are taking this safari in order to take pictures, you should be sure that your camera is one that can withstand rough conditions.

For more information on South African safari tours, purchase a travel magazine that has to do with that topic. You should be able to find a variety of different contacts that can help you find the right tour.

Have You Considered Unique Adventure Travel?

Unique adventure travel is the latest craze in tourism and many tour operators are offering unique adventure travel tours. You can find a unique adventure tour to suit all of your needs so no matter where abouts in the world you are travelling to, you should easily be able to find something to suit you.

What Does Unique Adventure Travel Mean?

To many people, unique adventure travel means different things. That is because everybody’s idea of what is unique and what isn’t, is always different. You could find snorkelling unique, whereas somebody else may just think that is an ordinary travel activity. So, basically unique adventure travel is something that you class as different.

It could be that your idea of a unique adventure travel tour combines a few different activities such as hiking, cycling and water sports. Even an adventure tour combining golf, tennis and swimming could be unique to you. Or perhaps bird watching and camping is more your idea of unique? Whatever you think makes a different holiday, that is basically what a unique adventure travel package consists of. You can plan your own unique adventure travel, or you can enlist the help of a travel agency if you would prefer.

Going on an Expedition

Another form of unique adventure involves going on an expedition. Now an expedition could take as long as you want it to. So you could go on an expedition for a week or two, or even for up to twelve months. You can travel the whole world if you wanted to but that could take quite a while! It all depends upon where you want to go, as to how long your expedition will last. Also, you need to think about what you want to do on your expedition. Finances will also play a big part in it too. So before you can plan your big expedition, you need to know what you want to do, how much money you have to spend and how long you can go for.

If you do not feel ready to go on a unique adventure travel tour, then you can always enlist the help of a specially designed school. There are a number of training schools set up across the country and so it would be a good idea to join up with them before you set off. They will help to prepare you and teach you various skills on how to behave, what to do in an emergency, etc.

Overall a unique adventure holiday to Spain could mean absolutely anything. It all depends upon what you consider to be unique. So if you are considering this type of travel, it would be a good idea to think of something unique that you would like to do.

Welcome To Vietnam - Budget Travel Paradise

Vietnam is becoming a very popular travel destination. People have put Vietnam on their itinerary for 2 main reasons: Vietnam travel is a great bargain for the budget minded tourist and when they arrive in Vietnam they are greeted by great hosts.

Airfares to Vietnam are bargains if you shop. You can be in Ho Chi Minh City (known as Saigon to the Vietnamese in the south) from the west coast of the United States in less than 19 hours and this includes a 1 ½ hour layover.

Domestic transportation is cheap! An open tour bus ticket from Saigon to Hanoi costs less than $30.00 and your get to see some of the greatest scenery imaginable. Don’t want to take the bus? Comfortable trains and fast planes are available. A two hour flight from Saigon to Hanoi is about $100.00.

Tourist hotels are cheap and inviting. The staffs are helpful and courteous. You can travel from town to town with out a reservation and always find suitable lodging.

As mentioned earlier the scenery is fabulous – misty mountains to lush green rice paddies to sunny beaches. Vietnam is home to 5 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including Halong Bay. Bring 2 cameras – you’ll probably wear one out.

I have saved the best for last. The Vietnamese cuisine is awesome. Most restaurants still get their daily fares fresh from the local market. Fresh herbs, spices, vegetables and local meat make for great meals. Seafood and chicken dishes are specialties, together with those made from pork and beef. Vietnamese food is light and flavorful at the same time. Oriental and a bit of French influence create the right mixture for the Western palate.

Don’t hesitate to put Vietnam in your travel plans. You won’t be sorry. And you won’t forget.

Funny Travel Experiences

For many years we have nearly always used Manchester airport in preference to Gatwick and Heathrow. On a recent occasion, we simply just got in the car and set off for Manchester airport. We always use the same off airport car park and parked up the car and went to reception to check in and for them to take down our return flight details, I heard one of the reception staff say to my wife, you are at the wrong airport, these tickets are for Stansted airport.

At first I thought it was a joke until I saw the look on my wife's face which was a mixture of pure confusion and horror. The tickets were indeed for Stansted airport some 300 miles away.

We decided to travel onto Manchester airport and to see if we could arrange a flight to Rhodes. A flight was leaving in 3 hours, but was fully booked according to their records and we were advised that if someone did not turn up, we could for £100 each transfer to this flight and return from Rhodes via Stansted.

By this time my wife was an emotional mess and I had virtually resigned myself to returning home. We just sat there waiting, seeing the queue for this flight getting ever longer and then shorter as the last few people checked in.

With 5 minutes to go before the check in closed only 2 people had yet to turn up. By this time my wife was running up and down the airport asking any one coming through the doors where they were going and nearly kissing them if they said anywhere but Rhodes.

We eventually got on the flight and my wife much to my embarrassment relaid the story to anyone who would listen. I now check all tickets.

By the time we returned from holiday, everyone knew what we had done and my wife for a time was called Stan short of course for Stansted.

A Quick Tour Of Italy - Southern Veneto

If you are looking for a European tourist destination, consider the Veneto region of northern Italy on the Gulf of Venice. Venice is one of the world's most popular tourist destinations. But the Veneto region is a lot more than this great city. With a little luck you'll avoid tourist traps, and return home feeling that you have truly visited Italy. This article examines southern Veneto tourist attractions. Our companion articles describe northern Veneto, the Shakespearean city of Verona, and the university city of Padua.

Over the centuries Vicenza passed from one occupier to another. In the Sixteenth Century was the home of Andrea Palladio, perhaps the most influential person in Western architecture. About two dozen of his Veneto villas compose a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Palladio was a major influence on Thomas Jefferson's Monticello, and many state capitol buildings. Don't tour Vicenza without visiting several of his masterpieces. The Olympic Theatre is Palladio's last work and one of his best. It includes five hallways that look like streets; each spectator has a view of at least one street.

Perhaps Palladio's greatest work was the Villa La Rotunda, inspired by the Pantheon in Rome and itself inspiring some one thousand buildings across the globe. It fits perfectly into its surroundings and the city of Vicenza on the horizon. Villa La Rotunda has belonged to the same family for over two hundred years.

The town of Rovigo is rich in history and culture whose most famous cultural institution is the St. Stephen Cathedral built prior to the Eleventh Century. Admire its interior artwork. There are several other old churches worth visiting. Several Rovigo Squares have maintained their historic character. The largest is dedicated to Emperor Victor Emmanuel II and hosts several palaces. The Fifteenth Century Gothic Cathedral faces this Piazza. The Piazza has a statue to the emperor and a Saint Mark's lion said to indicate whether a Veneto town is peaceful or not.

Pigeon is a Veneto specialty. Stracotto d'Asino is a donkey meat recipe often served as a pasta sauce. See our companion article I Love Touring Italy - Southern Veneto for a sample menu and more information on Veneto wines and an in-depth examination of its tourist attractions. Bardolino Superiore DOCG is produced west and northwest of Verona near Lake Garda from several Italian and international red grapes. This wine is living proof that Garantita is no guarantee of high quality, some are and some are not.

Levi Reiss has authored or co-authored ten books on computers and the Internet, but to be honest, he would rather just drink fine Italian, French, or other wine, accompanied by the right foods. To help you in your planning, we have put together a few hints and ideas on how to choose Alaskan cruise-tours.

How Long will I spend in Alaska?

Princess includes a seven night Voyage of the Glaciers cruise on every cruise-tour vacation package. You now need to decide how long you would like to spend exploring the natural beauty of Alaska's wilderness.

A fascinating three night vacation tour will take you directly to Denali Park for a two night stay at the Denali Princess Wilderness Lodge.

On a four night cruise-tour you can experience some of Alaska's highlights featuring Denali, Anchorage and Fairbanks. You have the option of staying longer at your favorite destination.

The five night tour is the most popular of all Princess cruise-tour vacation packages. Explore Alaska's interior at a more relaxed pace.

Six to eight night tours allow plenty of time to leisurely travel and explore the very heartland of Alaska. Perhaps an extended look at the highest peak in North America, Mount McKinley, is on your agenda!

You can of course add extra nights to your stay in Alaska on any of the cruise-tour packages. You can even add a vacation tour package to the Canadian Rockies.

What do I want to see?

The heart of Alaska cruise-tour goes directly to the Denali Park area of heartland Alaska. Alaska Wilderness cruise-tours include Denali with some of the other fascinating areas of Alaska. You can explore the lovely Kenai Peninsula, the history-steeped Copper River Area. Perhaps you would like to cross the Arctic Circle and visit the "Land of the Midnight Sun". The longer you stay, the more there is to see and do. It's up to you to decide where to go and what fascinating areas to see.

When will I go?

From May through September, Princess offers their fantastic cruise-tours. You will need to decide, generally, when you would like to go. If wildlife viewing is a big part of your cruise tour, perhaps July would be desirable when the young are emerging. To take advantage of "special" values, perhaps early or late in the season is best. In any case, these are very popular packages and you are well advised to book early.

What cruise to select?

Once you have determined when you would like to enjoy your cruise-tour vacation package, you must check the actual cruise schedule. Find a cruise that sails either before or after your desired tour time. You are now ready to make the next important decision - what stateroom to choose. You must decide whether you would prefer an interior room, an oceanview cabin, a balcony stateroom or a mini-suite.

As was stated earlier, these cruise-tour vacation packages with Princess Cruise Lines are very popular and do sell out. It is best to plan early so that you can take advantage of early booking discounts when available. This also guarantees that you will be able to get your desired cruise date and ship, in your desired stateroom with your desired tour package.

Formerly a British colony, Belize, the small yet magnificent Central American country, is breathtakingly beautiful with numerous activities to offer to its visitors.

This small land consists of inhabitants coming from diverse backgrounds ranging from Creole, Mayan, Garifuna, Hispanic, Mestizo and Middle Eastern. There is the world-renowned barrier reef, dense rainforests, beaches, mountains, along with island adventures, Mayan ruins, jungles, exotic wildlife and lots more to explore in Belize.

With so much to explore and experience in Belize, you would not want to miss even a single delight. Therefore you need somebody who can guide you throughout this enchanting country.

A travel agency well versed with Belize can easily arrange the accommodation, tours etc. for you. Travel agents can guide you throughout your journey, suggest the most exotic places to see and look after your needs.

But finding a good, reputed travel agency is not that easy. You need to check certain things before you let any travel agency to take care of your travel plans.

The following tips will help you in choosing a travel agency which can make your vacation productive and satisfying:

Check out the certifications

The travel agency should have the licensed certificates of some approved travel authority. Check out whether the agency is a member of the American Society of Travel Agents. An ASTA certified travel agent is reliable, as the world's largest association of travel professionals. There are many stringent rules and requirements to become a member of the ASTA.

Contact Information

A reliable travel agent is the one who can be contacted physically and not just over e-mails. If the address of its office is not mentioned on the website, then it is a cause of worry.

No hidden charges

A reliable travel agency won't charge you any hidden fees for their services. They would mention right in the beginning the entire expense of your tour and won't ask extra money for the services they have not delivered.

Personal assistance

If you manage to find a travel agency which can assist you personally at your destination and throughout your journey, then you may have the agency you need. A good travel agency is one which not only provides impeccable services at best prices but also gives advice and adds value to your vacation.

Agents can put you in the right group

The kind of people who are traveling with you in a group make a lot of difference to your trip. For example, if an older couple is made to travel with a group of honeymooners, then quite naturally they would feel a little odd. Hence, tell the agents what your preferences are. They can help you join the people of the same age group and areas of interest.

Recommend according to your budget

Travel agencies typically enjoy a wide network of contacts with hotels, resorts, restaurants, companies offering snorkeling and diving gear and other equipment. They can recommend places and accommodation based upon your budget and requirements. Suppose you want do snorkeling or diving. A travel agent can guide you to the place, such as Ambergris Caye, Hopkins or any other place where you can indulge in your favorite activities set in your budget. Similarly, if offbeat tours such as Belize jungle vacations or adventure tours is what you like, it is always better to let the agency chalk out your itinerary according to your budget.

Plan early

The earlier you start planning, the better. If you wish to visit Belize and its popular islands (called cayes) during the month of Christmas, Thanksgiving or New Year, book as early as possible. The sooner you contact a reliable travel agency, the better accommodation you are likely to get. The peak season to visit Belize is between the months of December to April. Therefore, contact your travel agency and book in advance for your Belize jungle vacations or Belize adventure tours to avoid the rush.

Chicago Architecture - A Tour in Artistic Design

Chicago is one of the most beautiful cities in the United States. It is a treasure of the Midwest with its gorgeous setting along Lake Michigan. Having visited most comparable cities, I think Chicago's skyline rivals almost any other in the country, especially because of its reflective position on the water.

A great focus for any tour of Chicago is its architecture. Chicago is known for its artistic design, especially in the modern world. Historic Chicago was largely destroyed by fire in 1871, so most of Chicago's prominent buildings date after that year. Therefore, one of Chicago's most notable structures might be its historic water tower along the Magnificent Mile shopping district. It was built in 1869 and was one of the only structures to survive the fire. The Magnificent Mile is otherwise an exciting and extremely modern business district with upscale designer boutiques and world class dining.

Another great architectural reason to tour Chicago is in order to visit the Sears Tower. Is it still the world's tallest building? You probably know this depends on whom you ask. But for all intents and purposes, the Sears Tower is still the world's tallest, habitable building. If you must specify further in order to win the pool at work, call it the world's tallest "office building".

The James R. Thompson building, which is often called the State Building in Chicago will still further impress your artistic eye. This building not only has a unique rounded design, it is also almost completely glass enclosed even to its glass-paneled ceiling.

The John Hancock Center has won architectural awards for its unique cross-bracing exterior that allows for more office space within. This building also provides one of the most fabulous observatories in the city. It is open air, which means you're about to discover exactly why they call Chicago the Windy City. It also includes innovative "sound scopes" with chirping birds and cheering crowds that give the viewer the impression of actually being in the attractions at which they are taking a closer view.

If the amazing architecture in Chicago inspires further study into the art of building design, then you won't want to miss the Frank Lloyd Wright landmark. It includes the home and studio from which he lived and worked for the first twenty years of his prestigious architectural career. Frank Lloyd Wright believed that well-designed buildings make a difference in our lives. Talk about a passion for your profession! From Chicago and beyond in his career, Wright went on to design more than 500 buildings that were completed and approximately 500 more never built.

Chicago, like many cities near the water, offers harbor cruises for its site-seeing tours. And because of its distinctive prominence in the world of design, some of these tours are specifically called architectural cruises. They predominantly navigate the Chicago River with expert guides pointing out the most notable of Chicago's skyscrapers and structures.

There are several great photo ops in Chicago to commemorate your architectural finds. Either the Sears Tower or the Hancock observatories will of course provide the best bird's eye views of this amazing city, and a cruise from the water would offer a unique perspective for your tourist's album. One extremely distinctive photo op, though, is offered on dry land, quite near the ground.

In 1999, artist Anish Kapoor's sculpture idea was chosen from several designs for a prominent place in Chicago's Millennium Park. This park holds the famous Jay Pritzker Pavilion with its state-of-the-art outdoor sound system and concert venue. And in this park stands the unique photo opportunity in the amazing sculpture by Kapoor. Often called "the bean", the stainless steel structure is curved to reflect the Chicago skyline. It's a unique - although popular - new way to capture this amazing city on film.

Whether you do it from the sky, the water, or the ground, you will want to capture somehow the skyline and beautiful architecture of Chicago, Illinois. Once you've seen it up close, the photographs will be a meaningful addition to your collection.
